What Do They Think Novels Are for?
Although Daniel Green at The Reading Experience was pretty harsh in his judgement of Zadie Smith's recent essay on fiction, he now offers an incisive post which concurs with her complaint therein that editors and academics now read novels primarily for subject matter, ignoring elements such as form and language and thus missing the essential point of fiction.
