Since the official WBN is concentrating on books already well known, I suggest too buying from a small publisher and a less hyped author - and you couldn't go wrong with my own publisher, Salt!

Brilliant ideas ... it is also worth checking with your local libraries to see what they have on in addition to the giveaways.
Mine is being terrific (Jubilee Library Brighton) with free events all night, including a visit from Shedman - and invited authors giving short readings from/talks about their favourite books.
Oh yes, I second that - check out the local library!
