The Writing on the Wall

I was in the doctor's this morning (nothing serious) and for some reason nothing was moving, and the wait was an hour and a quarter. At one point I looked up from my book and there were eighteen of us waiting, all in silence. One other person was reading a book, two others were reading waiting-room mags, but the other fourteen were sitting staring at the walls for one and a quarter hours.

Maybe they were the deep thinkers. Or maybe they were just too worried about their health...

Hey Eliz, That would be me too, staring at the wall - for some reason I can't read in waiting rooms; I just wait and wait and hope it'll be me next!

Yes, it isn't the best of circs, I have to say!

Hi FB

I never go anywhere without a book. Can't stand 'waiting' anywhere for any reason.

Hi Pants. I have to say I'm always really torn on this one. This week I went on a train journey, and as usual it was hard to choose between using the gift of time to read or the opportunity of getting away from the desk to soak up a bit of LIFE and fodder for writing!

I know exactly what you mean. I can't abide 'wasting' time but then remind myself that time spent sitting and doing nothing other than just 'being' isn't necessarily time wasted ...

Exactly, Debi!

There's nothing worse than a room full of mindreaders when you are trying to get into a good book...
